My Eyeball Is A Dud
March 30, 2021 4:27 pmAt the age of 22, my world turned upside down with my diagnosis…
Basically, my eyeball is a dud.
There was the fear of losing it, or my vision, expensive cutting edge surgery not covered by OHIP & the recovery.
It’s been quite the ride & it’s not over yet.
I’ve had 2 corneal transplants in the same eye; the left and for the duration, because this “eye business” happened at a younger age, I’ve been in a study at the University Health Network in Toronto. (More details on THAT journey later)
My Opthalmologist, Dr. Allan Slomovic, is World Class. I was lucky to be referred to the BEST of the Best.
And if EYEBALL get’s into trouble, without delay, I’m in to see him and his superlative team. EYEBALL is old, 19 years old in fact; so she’s been giving me some trouble over the past couple of years. But it is a gift to be able to rely on the expertise of the University Health Network.
The threat of rejection has happened multiple times; each time, I’m seen, calmed and told what to do to save EYEBALL.
Right now, it’s the middle of a pandemic and I have no desire to venture into Toronto; right now, EYEBALL is not quiet, but it’s not a 911—years of this and anti-rejection drops, I know what to do. If it it changes, off to the team I go.
