Movie Review: Did TENET Break Matt’s Brain?
September 4, 2020 10:15 amHey gang, Matt here – with some advice for if you’re venturing back
to the movie Theater – if you’re going to see the new Christopher Nolan
movie,Tenet.. You may want to go EARLY for the matinee, or you may
be up late with a busy-brain.
I say this because this movie throws a lot at you : The time reversal-
mechanics, the physics and all the implications that go with them –
get thrown at you in this High action, high octane thriller, will play
your mind like a Rubix cube for many hours after you’ve left the theater.
Your night-brain will be throwing revelations at you all night long from
the experience.
Now either my brain is out of shape, or all that forwards and backwards
throughtime mechanics were a little confusing…
Basically – ITS A MIND BENDY ACTION MOVIE.
So, let’s just try and paint in broad strokes without spoilers..
In Tenet – you’ve got this threatening technology from the future
which allows objects and people( and anything that goes into the
turnstile thing)to get irradiated with some mysterious tech that
reverses its entropy – to move backwards through time instead of forwards.
Basically you switch the direction of your own flow.
Still with me?
Good!
For example: You pick up a gun and the bullet goes out of the wall and
into the gun. To the observer moving forwards through time normally –
like you and me, somebody moving through time from the future-to-
past would appear to move and speak backwards.. And vice versa.
And if you can mentally navigate that, then you can outwit either side.
It’s a neat idea and it certainly looked surreal on film..
HAVING SAID THAT – TRY GOING HOME AND GOING TO BED
AFTER THAT — Says the guy here that goes down at 8pm, and
gets up at 4am. Your brain will be lit up as you try to go to sleep.
I should have known better. It’s a Christopher Nolan movie.
INCEPTION – Made me dream about folding city blocks and bendy skyscrapers.
iNTERSTELLAR – Made me dream about an astronaut Matt Damon trying to kill me.
DARK KNIGHT – I had a dream about being Batman…
LAST NIGHT? No joke.. I actually had dreams about using the time-
machine room TO REVERSE TIME SO I COULD GET MORE SLEEP!
ALL THANKS TO TENET.
No kidding.. Forget about the wrecked helicopters swallowing-
fireballs and putting themselves back together and flying away backwards-
– Hey, I’m sleeping here!
My great discovery of how to use the Time Reverse Device,
IN MY ACTUAL DREAMS, went like this:
I’d Wake up at 4am – and then go into the machine and reverse my
time-entropy, and go right back to bed and watch the clock go
backwards for a minute, and then sleep from 4am backwards to 1am.
And then wake up, go into the Time Carousel Thing – and sleep
forwards from 1am-4am.
So, I actually did this all night long. In my dreams, thinking that it
was actually working – FOR REAL! Yes, my sleep-deprived brain –
actually fantasized about this IN MY DREAMS.. All night long.
Sleeping backwards and forwards, and savoring every hour of it.
AND if that’s not enough – I had to tiptoe in my dream- because there
were multiple versions of myself laying on gurneys, side by side
-All catching up on different stages of sleep.
This is what Tenet made me dream of!
Meanwhile outside there were mushroom clouds shrinking into
the ground and freeway pile ups un-crumpling into whole cars driving-
backwards, and during all of this, going on outside the lab window,
I’m chuckling sleepily and yawning at the alarm clock, and going,
“Are we back to 1 am yet?”
Full neglect – Not Care.
So, then I woke up for real this morning – And after all that work, in
my dreams, NONE IT HAD WORKED. NONE OF IT!
I stood under the shower in shock, thinking over the strange night of dreams.
Thanks again to Christopher Nolan and the cast/crew of Tenet.
Thanks for that.
Tenet…Now in Theaters
Mask up. Space out… in your seats and in your mind.
