{"id":16443,"date":"2021-09-29T08:45:11","date_gmt":"2021-09-29T12:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/chokfm\/?p=16443"},"modified":"2021-09-29T16:17:08","modified_gmt":"2021-09-29T20:17:08","slug":"alan-jackson-living-with-degenerative-nerve-condition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/chokfm\/blogs\/country-music-news\/2021\/09\/alan-jackson-living-with-degenerative-nerve-condition\/","title":{"rendered":"Alan Jackson Living With Degenerative Nerve Condition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alan Jackson has revealed he is living with a degenerative nerve condition that is impacting his ability to tour and perform.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/country-star-alan-jackson-announces-cmt-diagnosis-today-t232178\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">During an interview with Jenna Bush Hager on NBC&#8217;s Today show on Tuesday, September 28th<\/a>, Alan said that he has a rare condition known as \u201cCMT\u201d (Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disorder), which is related to muscular dystrophy and Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019ve been reluctant to talk about this publicly and to my fans, but I have this neuropathy \u2013 a neurological disease that\u2019s genetic that I inherited from my daddy. There\u2019s no cure for it, but it\u2019s been affecting me for years. And it\u2019s getting more and more obvious.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Alan was first diagnosed a decade ago, and that his father and grandmother had it, as well as his oldest sister.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s not going to kill me \u2013 it\u2019s not deadly. I know I\u2019m stumbling around onstage, and now I\u2019m having a little trouble balancing even in front of a microphone. I\u2019m just very uncomfortable. I was starting to get so self-conscious up there\u2026so if anybody\u2019s curious why I don\u2019t walk right, that\u2019s why. I just wanted the fans and the public to know. I don\u2019t want \u2019em to think I\u2019m drunk onstage because I\u2019m having problems with mobility and balance.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Alan says that CMT often manifests in muscle weakness, discomfort and pain, especially when standing for long periods he hopes to continue performing.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI don\u2019t know how much I\u2019ll continue to tour. I\u2019m not saying I won\u2019t be able to tour. I\u2019ll try to do as much as I can. I don\u2019t want people to be sad for me; it\u2019s just part of life. I\u2019ve had a wonderful, beautiful life. I\u2019ve been so blessed. It\u2019s just good to put it out there in the open.
