{"id":11941,"date":"2022-08-05T09:27:05","date_gmt":"2022-08-05T13:27:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/chyrfm\/?p=11941"},"modified":"2022-08-05T09:27:05","modified_gmt":"2022-08-05T13:27:05","slug":"mix-mornings-book-club-some-nice-august-reads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/chyrfm\/blogs\/mornings\/2022\/08\/mix-mornings-book-club-some-nice-august-reads\/","title":{"rendered":"Mix Mornings BOOK CLUB &#8211; Some Nice August Reads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My book is one that was recommended by almost everyone in my family so I had to read it.\u00a0 <em>Anxious People<\/em> by Fredrick Backman is sort of about a bank robbery, but not really.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also sort of about a hostage situation&#8230; but not really.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a lot to unpack here, so let me just say it&#8217;s thoroughly enjoyable and not quite as serious as <em>Beartown<\/em>, another great book of his.\u00a0 It does deal with subjects like suicide, depression, capitalism and more&#8230; but it&#8217;s also crazily funny.\u00a0 4.5\/5 stars.<\/p>\n<p>Tori discovered this author after falling down a pretty deep YouTube rabbit hole. Michael Pollan is a journalist and plant expert, who&#8217;s dedicated a lot of his recent work to understanding &#8220;mind altering plants&#8221;. Of course we&#8217;re talking psychedelics, but also stuff like caffeine. This book delves specifically into opium, caffeine and mescaline, and it&#8217;s just suuuuuper interesting. It&#8217;s part scientific, historical, anthropological &amp; biographical.
