If you were reading this hoping to be mad by the headline, I’m sorry to say I actually want to clear up the unnecessary controversy.<\/p>\n
Like in a few other productions, Disney has added a disclaimer at the beginning of the newly added “The Muppets” show now on Disney+. It reads:<\/p>\n
\n\n\nThis programme includes negative depictions and\/or mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Some people are upset that they added this disclaimer, as they don’t feel it’s necessary.<\/p>\n
The show premiered in 1976, a very different time. Some character depictions fall on stereotypes, and there’s some pretty notably unmannerly occurrences.<\/p>\n

As pointed out by Disney, there are only really about 5 episodes in which the disclaimer is necessary.<\/p>\n
In the disclaimer, they also state,<\/p>\n
Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
I truly don’t believe this deserves any kind of controversy. There’s way too many good Muppets moments to boycott the show anyway.<\/p>\n
