{"id":12313,"date":"2021-01-18T05:43:36","date_gmt":"2021-01-18T10:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cjwffm\/uncategorized\/2021\/01\/blake-shelton-defends-new-single\/"},"modified":"2021-01-18T05:43:36","modified_gmt":"2021-01-18T10:43:36","slug":"blake-shelton-defends-new-single","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cjwffm\/blogs\/country-music-news\/2021\/01\/blake-shelton-defends-new-single\/","title":{"rendered":"Blake Shelton Defends New Single"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"video-shortcode embed-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"610\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vjhecr9TGlo\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Blake Shelton has released &#8220;Minimum Wage&#8221; as his new single.<\/p>\n<p>He first performed the show on NBC&#8217;s New Year&#8217;s Eve special where the song was met with some controversy.<\/p>\n<p>With lyrics like, \u201cGirl, lookin\u2019 at you lookin\u2019 at me that way \/ Can make a man feel rich on minimum wage,\u201d some called the song \u201ctone deaf\u201d as it comes during a time of high unemployment and financial struggle for so many during the current pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>But Blake doesn&#8217;t agree with that assessment.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;These days, there are people out there who don\u2019t want to know the truth. They just want to hear what they want to hear, and they want to pick a fight. No matter what your intention is, no matter what the truth is, they want it to be something that they can be upset about so that they can get on social media and try to grab a headline. With \u2018Minimum Wage,\u2019 at first I thought, \u2018Wow, I guess I just I\u2019ve missed something here.\u2019 And the more I read into this, I realized this was really not real. Whatever this backlash is is just four or five people that probably don\u2019t know anything about country music.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Blake added that if people continue to be so adversarial when it comes to country music then he&#8217;ll leave it behind.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI have to say, if we have to start thinking like this, then I guess that\u2019ll be where I have to bow out. Because that\u2019s one of the longest-standing traditions in country music is lyrics about love. And if you\u2019ve got love, then that\u2019s all that matters. There won\u2019t be much left to play or write about on country radio if this is something that we have to think twice about. So I\u2019m going to put out the records that resonate with me and my life and not look back. As country artists and as an industry, we have to stay focused here and know that what\u2019s right is right.
