Vince Gill was recently on “CBS This Morning” talking about how country music is dealing with the subject of race, especially following the Morgan Wallen controversy.<\/p>\n
Vince admitted that he was “nervous” to even discuss it because you can have good intentions but still “get ripped” for what you say.<\/p>\n
And he pushed back on the idea that everybody in country music leans far to the right.<\/p>\n
“I think most people perceive that country music is extremely conservative, and I’m not sure that’s true. Maybe the audience might be predominantly conservative, I don’t know that the artistry is, I don’t know that the community is.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
He does think it “would be nice” if more country artists decided to speak up.<\/p>\n
“And when White America makes the argument, ‘I hear it in rap music all the time’, I go, ‘Have you not been paying attention to the last 3-400 years, how that word has been used by the white community? It’s derogatory, dismissive, and hurtful. It doesn’t have a place.'”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Vince Gill would like to see more country artists speak up about diversity.
