In May, Hayden released a memoir called “This Is Me: A Reckoning”, where she talked about her personal struggles, including depression, addiction, domestic abuse, and the death of her brother in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hayden’s big break was as the indestructible cheerleader on NBC’s “Heroes”, which ran from 2006 to 2010. But by then, she’d already spent years as a child actress. She even played a young ant named Dot in Pixar’s “A Bug’s Life”. And for country fans, she was known for her role as Juliette Barnes in Nashville. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hayden Panettiere later said Nashville became emotionally difficult because Juliette Barnes\u2019 storylines started mirroring her real life. Juliette dealt with postpartum depression, addiction, relationship problems and separation from her daughter while Hayden was experiencing similar struggles herself. She called filming the show \u201cvery traumatizing because I felt like I was acting out my own life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was especially critical of the writers, saying, \u201cThey weren\u2019t creating new storylines. They were just looking at my life.\u201d Hayden said the overlap eventually became so intense that she \u201cdidn\u2019t know where one person began and the other one ended.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also remembered feeling surprisingly isolated on set. Unlike Heroes, where the cast became close, she said most of the Nashville cast went home to their families after work. One exception was Jonathan Jackson, who played Avery, whom she described as a genuine friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her relationship with Connie Britton was complicated at first, too \u2014 not because they disliked each other, but because Hayden was actually worried about hurting or offending her. Their characters, Juliette and Rayna, were rivals, and Hayden said she was uncomfortable having to be so nasty and passive-aggressive toward Connie on camera. After their very first scene together, she kept apologizing to Connie because she worried the hostility could feel too real and she \u201cdidn\u2019t want to step on toes.\u201d Hayden later said it was difficult playing their competitiveness and described Connie as \u201camazing,\u201d \u201cso supportive\u201d and \u201ca class act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sad irony is that Hayden also considered Juliette one of the characters she understood best and was most proud to play \u2014 but the role eventually became deeply personal and painful.

Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts appeared as himself on Nashville: He had \u201cthe privilege of working with her several times\u201d during her Nashville years, called the news \u201cabsolutely heartbreaking\u201d and offered prayers for her family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bluebird Cafe, an important part of the series, remembered Hayden as \u201ca spark; funny, incredibly talented, beautiful,\u201d saying Nashville brought her into the Bluebird family and that they were heartbroken by her death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter named Kaya, whom she had with her former fianc\u00e9 Wladimir Klitschko.<\/p>\n\n\n
