From Welfare To Wealth

Diana Ellen began her musical career playing piano in church.  At 17 she married Michael, and they had a daughter, Christina.

The young couple divorced after a few years of marriage, and Diana took Christina to Los Angeles, living on welfare.

In 1979, the pair moved to Tennessee, and Diana was determined to form a Country act with her daughter.  The gamble paid off, and the duo went on to score five Grammys and eight CMAs.  They had twenty five singles on the Country charts, with fourteen reaching number one.

Diana changed her name to Naomi, and Christina changed hers to Wynonna.
