Most Awarded Independent Male Artist In Canadian Country
December 28, 2019 6:35 amJamie took piano lessons at the age of five. Guitar lessons followed a few years later, and his first songwriting effort in his early teens.
After graduating from high school, he did some air shifts on local southern Ontario radio stations and he maintained his interest in singing and songwriting. He entered the Youth Talent Search at the Western Fair in London, Ontario and won. He was sent to Memphis, Tennessee to compete with other North American winners, and this led to a year of steady performing at Libertyland amusement park in Memphis.
In his mid twenties, the awards started coming in. In 1985, he won the RPM Big Country Award for Best New Artist. Jamie was named independent Male Vocalist of the Year in 1999. He was nominated for a Juno later that year. In 2002 he won Single of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for “Sunny Day in the Park”.
