Smith, Garnet (Age 88, Brussels And Formerly Listowel)

Garnet Smith of Brussels, formerly of Listowel, peacefully surrounded by his family, on Friday, October 25, 2019, at the age of 88. Garnet was the founder of Atwood Resources (formerly Atwood Pet Foods). He was a life member and Past President (1975-76) of the Lions Club of Atwood and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and the Helen Keller Award.  Garnet maintained perfect attendance for over 50 years and was always apologetic when he had to miss a Lions Thursday night bingo for his annual trip to Nova Scotia. In his retirement, Garnet enjoyed woodworking, playing music, curling, carpentry and spending time with his family and friends.
Beloved husband of the late Doreen (King) Smith who predeceased him in 2016.  Loving companion of Audrey Cardiff. Dear father of Diane Darroch and Allan Runhart, David and Cathy Smith, Doug and Lorell Smith, Darlene and Tom Bowes. Special grandpa of 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Brother of Wava and Fred Dubeau. Fondly remembered by Audrey’s children Colleen and Paul Homann, Allan Cardiff and the late Claudia, Janet and George Miller, Catherine and Gordon Fuller, Stewart and Alison Cardiff, Robert and Allyson Cardiff and their families and by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Tom and Famie (Boss) Smith, son-in-law Gordon Darroch, brothers Leonard and Erva and Kenneth and Genesta, sisters Vera and Murdock Beaton, Vilda and Bob Morton and two sisters in infancy.
Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Elma Memorial Community Centre, 251 Main Street, Atwood on Sunday, October 27, 2019, from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM where the funeral service to celebrate Garnet’s life will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019, at 11 AM with Pastor Brian Hymers officiating.  Private family interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or London Health Sciences Foundation appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Brenneman Funeral Home, Atwood.
