McGregor, Frederick “Fred” (Age 89, Brucefield)
December 23, 2019 10:04 amFrederick “Fred” McGREGOR of Brucefield on Saturday December 21, 2019 in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Dorothy Mae (Dodds) McGregor for 68 years. Dear father of Larry and Karen McGregor of Zurich, and Glenn and Hope McGregor of Bluewater Township. Cherished grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Also survived by brother in law Don and Maja Dodds and family. Predeceased by his parents Gregor and Elizabeth McGregor, daughter Karen and Gordon Yeo of Goderich Township, and by his half sister Susan and Richard Hogan.
Fred obtained his private pilots licence, was a multifaceted tradesman with exceptional mechanical skills, and an electrician for 67 years. He found employment at Lobb and McGregor Farm Equipment, Boyce Transport, Canada Packers, Ross Scott Fuels, Bell Industries, and Woodstock and Petrolia Hospitals. Founding F. McGregor Electrical and Mechanical Contracting he helped build schools, water treatment plant throughout Ontario. He also bid on jobs in Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. He was a proud member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for 68 years holding the office of Grand Patriarch in 2009/10. He also served his community through his membership of the Brucefield United Church and Brucefield Community United Church. He was most happy when he was fixing things and designing and building. He gave back the skills he was given. An example being assisting to rebuild the Mississippi flooded town of Keithsburg, Illinois in 1994.
Friends will be received at the Brucefield Community United Church, 10 London Rd., Brucefield on Friday, December 27, 2019, from 9:30 AM until time of the funeral service at 11 AM. Cremation to follow. Interment of ashes at Bairds Cemetery at a later date.
