Robert Bruce SCHENK, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at The Village Senior’sCommunity, Hanover on Monday, February 17, 2020, just a month short of his 94th birthday.
Known as Bob to his friends and family, he was born on a farm outside of Ayton on March 18, 1926, to the late Isadore and Myrtle (nee Fortune) Schenk. In 1951, Bob married Rita Kahl of Lauderbach, and loved sharing 67 years together until Rita’s passing in June of last year. Bob is survived by his son Dale and Carol Schenk of Guelph, daughter Debbie Schenk of Hanover, granddaughters Laura and Daniel Armstrong and Caitlin and Dan Mombourquette and great grandchildren Aubrey and Bennett Armstrong, all of Guelph. Fondly remembered by his brother in law Don Hooper of Toronto. All of his nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle Bob. Predeceased by dear sister Jean Hooper (nee Schenk) and his brothers and sisterw-in-law, Eileen and Ivan Porter, and Ruth and Harold Luft.

Bob was a loving husband and father, and good friend to many; he got great joy out of life and it was always a pleasure to spend time with him. Bob worked his whole career at Fisher Poultry Farm in Ayton, starting at the age of 16 feeding chickens on the range, and working his way up to managing partner when he retired in 1988. He was always active in his community, belonging to the Rotary Club, serving on the town council, and acting as Secretary-Treasurer on the school board when the Normanby Township School was built. After retiring, he could be found golfing,
woodworking, curling, or tossing horseshoes at Silent Valley. Bob enjoyed music and singing, participating in the Barber Shop Choir, and joining with Rita in church choirs and the Silver Threads Choir, as well as square dancing with the Happy Twirlers. Bob was a dedicated member and elder at Knox Presbyterian Church in Ayton until its closing, and then St. Andrew’s in Hanover.

Family and friends were invited to a Memorial Visitation held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Friday, February 21, 2020, from 1-4 pm. A Memorial Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11 am, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Hanover. Rev. Bonnie Sutherland officiated. Inurnment in the spring at Union Cemetery, Ayton.

Bob’s family truly appreciates the compassion and care he received in the Hanover and District Hospital, and then at the Village Senior’s Community. We want to thank Dr. Heerema and Dr. White and the many nurses and care workers at both places.

Memorial donations to the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Home and Community Support Services – Day Away Program, or the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
