Earl Leslie BOWMAN on Monday, March 9, 2020, in his 83rd year. Husband of Nancy (Smith) Bowman. Father of Steven and Lynda Bowman of Huntsville, Shelly and Ross Gaskin of Kitchener, and Tracy and Mark McKechnie of Kitchener. Grandfather of Ashley and Travis Curtis, and Aaron and Kristal Bowman, all of Gravenhurst, Amy Gaskin, Katie Gaskin, Matthew Gaskin, Amanda Wood, Alexander Wood, Connor McKechnie, and Megan McKechnie, all of Kitchener, Leanne and Gary McLaughlin of Revelstoke, BC, and Tara and Joe Wilson of Coldwater, and also sadly missed by his nine great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his sister Doreen Hill and her husband Howard, and brother Ralph Bowman and his wife Muriel.
Earl Bowman was born June 24, 1937, in the small south-western Saskatchewan settlement of Herschel which is near Rosetown. He grew up with an older sister Doreen and brother Ralph.  His parents Arthur and Elsie Bowman struggled as wheat farmers and eventually had to move back to Ontario in 1946 due to poor crop yields.  His dad built the welding shop at Gowanstown, which is still standing today.  Earl went to school at S.S.#4 Wallace rural elementary school on Shipley Hill between Gowanstown and Kurtzville.  Earl and Nancy were married on November 3, 1956. Their first place of residence was in Elmira because Earl was working there at the time. The next move was to Livingstone Avenue here in Listowel. In 1960 they started planning to build there own house on a small lot west of town on highway 86 and moved there the fall of 1961.  Earl has been insulin-dependent most of his life. When he was 17 he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He had been taking insulin daily for 65 years.
Earl was a member of the Listowel Kinsmen club in the ’60s and then a member of the Atwood Lions Club of which he was currently active as a Life Member.
Visitation will be held at Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Friday, March 13 from 7 to 9 PM with a Lions Club memorial service at 6:30 PM. Funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church, Listowel on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 11 AM.  Reverend Steven Cox officiating. Interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.
