Corry C.

Charles Webster Corry passed away after a stoic battle with congestive heart failure, at his home April 15, 2020 surrounded by the love of his family, in his 93rd year.

He was the beloved husband and best friend of Ethel (Mertens) Corry, whom he married in 1967.  Proud father of Peter Corry & his wife, Pamela Winter of Calgary, and Jennifer & John Judge of Listowel, and loved by his grandchildren Jaydn, Ruby, Ella and Josie.  Survived by his sisters-in-law, Donalda Corry of Atwood, and Alice & Barry Jones of Shelburne, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents James & Claribel Corry, brother Jack Corry, and sister Margaret Arnott and her husband Ken Arnott, as well as Ethel’s parents Cliff & Statira Mertens.

Charlie was born January 27,1928 in Listowel and lived most of his life as a farmer, on the Corry homestead near Britton. He remained engaged in farming at heart after retiring to Listowel. Keeping track of local crops, the weather, the progress of harvest and current events of the world kept his mind sharp. He loved music, his church and his family. He sang in choirs most of his life, enjoyed singing with his Junior Farmer Quartet and entertained with Ethel in retirement homes for over 20 years. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel where he served as an elder for 45 years and was named an Elder Emeritus in 2017. He had a keen interest in meeting people, with a genuine curiosity in wanting to know where they were from and what they worked at. His sharp but kind wit remained strong through his final days.  Charlie had a sincere interest in the history of Elma Township and coined the title of the history book, “The Elmanac”.

He was the epitome of a gentleman, who encouraged his children and grandchildren to be curious, to travel, to learn, to work hard and to embrace life with optimism. He expressed his love in deeds more than by words, but there was never a doubt you were loved by him.

A private family funeral service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.  The service will be live-streamed, and the link will be available on the Eaton Funeral Home website.
