Porter, Laverne (Age 84, Hanover)
August 18, 2020 9:40 amIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laverne Anetta Sophie Porter, of Hanover on Sunday, August 16th, 2020 at the age of 84. Born on June 24th, 1936 in Brant Township to the late William and Elizabeth (nee Mitchell) Becker. Laverne was married in September 1952 to her beloved husband and partner of 67 years, Orville Vernon Porter. Laverne and Orville enjoyed their many years of farming and raising their family in Bruce County, where they owned and operated cattle farms until their retirement in 2000. Laverne was also generous and active in her spare time, volunteering with the Solway Women’s Institute and Grace United Church UCW, as well as crafting porcelain dolls and completing puzzles of her favorite birds. Survived by her loving husband, Orville Porter, of Hanover. Beloved mother of Linda (Brad) Campbell of Oakville, Carolyn (Mike) Giesler of Hanover, Mark (Heather) Porter of Paisley, and Donna (Ed) Eckhardt of Port Perry. Dearly missed by grandchildren Breanne (Gary), Jennifer (Antony), Annette (Jason), Jeff (Kerri), Angela, Sharon, Melissa (Ben), Sara, Davin, Zachary, Nicolas (Janai), and Regan, and 16 great grandchildren. Fondly remembered by siblings John (Flora) Becker of Owen Sound, Arnold (Rebecca) Becker, Walter (Deborah Ann) Becker, Betty Masunas, and Heather (Keith) Becker-Divine all of Tucson, Arizona, and Alice (Ed) Huffman of Colorado. Predeceased by daughter Shirley MacIntosh, son-in-law Allan Becker, grandsons Adam Porter and Graig Ferguson, brother Bill Becker, and sister Isabelle Wilken. Visitation to be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Thursday, August 20th, 2020, from 7-9 pm. A private family Graveside Funeral Service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Southern Bruce Grey Hospice Satellite or the Alzheimer Society were appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
