October 23, 2020 8:49 amTimothy (Tim) Joseph Nicholson died peacefully and surrounded by his family on October 21, 2020.
Tim was born at his family’s heritage farm at Lot 18, Concession 15 in Logan Township on March 23, 1931. Tim was the fourth of six children of Margaret and Wilfred Nicholson and the brother of Ed, Helen, Lenore, Andy and Gary. Tim’s maternal grandparents spent their later years with the family and Tim had many memories of his grandfather’s strawberries, which he in turn enjoyed growing. Tim went to school at S.S.No 5 Logan followed by Mitchell District High School, leaving after Gr. 11 to help his parents on the family farm. Tim met Charlotte Robinson at a Regis Club dance in Stratford and they got married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford on August 24, 1957. Tim and Charlotte moved into the family farm and transformed it into a dairy operation. They raised five children Susan, Murray, Jerome, Dianne and Patricia (Trish). The family took many holidays from Atlantic to Pacific. Tim and Dianne made it all the way to the Arctic Ocean in 2018. Tim spent many years contributing to his community including The Logan Federation of Agriculture, Pork Producers, the Milk Marketing Board, Councillor and Deputy Reeve and Reeve of Logan Township, Perth County Council, Land Severance Board, Chairperson of the Perth County Historical Board, Building Committee of the Monkton Arena, IPM committee, Canadian Cancer Society canvasser, a founding member of the Knights of Columbus – Monsignor T.J. McCarthy Council #9252 and the Monkton Lion’s Club. He was very proud of his long term involvement and Chair of the Board of the Mitchell Medical Centre which he held for 32 years. Tim was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for community service.
After Charlotte’s death in 1998, Tim moved after 72 years on the family farm to his home on Hwy 23. He continued his love of travel and met his best friend Judy Soltys, who died on October 6, 2020. They were able to have many adventures and for many years spent several winter weeks in Victoria B.C.
Tim lived a full life and was happy continuing to live in his own home. Most recently Kim Ulch helped him out as a PSW and another great friendship was born. Tim is survived by his children Susan, Murray and his wife Louise, Jerome and his wife Sandi, Dianne and Trish as well as his grandchildren Andrew and his partner Sophie, Ryan and his fiancé Rachele, Dan and his partner Becca, Sean, Connor and his partner Rachel and Kendra. He is also survived by his sisters Helen Garrett and her husband Ross, Lenore Graves and his sisters-in-law Wilma Nicholson, Marilyn Nicholson and Rita Nicholson as well as Doris Spencer and John and Linda Charbonneau and many nieces and nephews.
Tim was predeceased by his parents, his wife Charlotte, his brothers Ed, Andy and Gary, his in-laws Louise and Louis Charbonneau, sisters-in-law Joan Wildgust and Dorothy Nicholson, brothers-in-law Robert Spencer, Peter Graves and Glen Wildgust.
Tim was a member of St. Brigid’s Catholic Church until it’s closing and then St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Mitchell. We will miss him tremendously, his many stories, his knowledge of our family history and his strength of spirit.
