Thomas, Dorothy (Age 90, Hanover)
November 2, 2020 10:35 amDorothy Mildred Thomas, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at The Village Senior’s Community, Hanover on Saturday, October 31, 2020. She was 90.
Born on April 9, 1930, in Mitchell, Ontario to the late Charles and Mildred (nee Musgrove) Robb. Raised by her mom and dad the stepfather Tony after her father’s death along with her brothers Glen, George and later joined by Carl. Dorothy alongside her husband owned and operated Hanover Typocraft until passing the ropes down to her son Gary. Dorothy will be remembered by many clients as well as friends she made during her working career. Dorothy had a huge heart and an even bigger smile. She volunteered throughout the community and gave her time generously to those in need. Over the years, she served on the Kinette Club, as the Provincial Appointee to the Hanover Police Board, Cancer Society (Executive/Cops for Cancer/Daffodil Campaign / Terry Fox Run), helping young students learn to read at the local school and working at the Light On Main Community Luncheon. Her endless dedication was acknowledged publicly by some groups with prestigious awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 from the Town of Hanover and an Ontario Volunteer Award for her work with the Cancer Society. She belonged faithfully to Grace United Church in Hanover and will be missed by her church family.
Survived by daughter Wendy Smith of Ajax, Rob (Jacqui) Thomas, Gary (Sandy) Thomas both of Hanover, David (Susan) Thomas of Kitchener. Loved grandmother of Lisa West (Mike), Andrew Smith (Ashley), Laura Smith (Jake), Rhys Thomas (Taylor), Chas Thomas (Rachel), Vanessa Thomas (Matthew), Adam Thomas (Angelee) and George Thomas. Dorothy had a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren and missing her dearly are Owen, Ryan, Julia, Alyssa, Braysen and Hadley. Dear sister of Carl (Patricia) Cornelissen of Stratford and sister in law of Marie Robb of London. Dorothy will be remembered by her extended family and friends. Predeceased by her parents, husband Donald, brothers Glen and George Robb and son in law Alan Smith.
A Private Family Visitation and Funeral will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover with the Funeral Service to be live-streamed for those wishing to join the service through the Mighton Funeral Home Facebook page on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at 11 am. Rev. Lyndsay McGregor officiating. Interment in Hanover Cemetery. All social distancing and sanitization measures will be taken in regards to COVID-19.
