Ed was raised in a household full of music.\u00a0 His dad was a skilled fiddle and accordion player, who entertained in local dance halls on weekends.\u00a0 By age twelve, Ed had become a talented guitar player and became a self-proclaimed, “walking encyclopedia of Country Music”.<\/p>\n
He dropped out of school at age sixteen, and his mom said,”he was never one for school, his head was too full of music”.<\/p>\n
Ed moved to Nashville and between odd jobs, he wrote songs.\u00a0 This would be where his talent really blossomed.\u00a0 He wrote, “Kentucky Rain”, which was a hit for Elvis, and “Pure Love”, a number one hit for Ronnie Milsap.<\/p>\n
In 1977 he won, “Top New Male Vocalist of the Year”, from the CMA.\u00a0 His albums and many of his singles were top hits, and he became known for his duets with Juice Newton and Crystal Gayle.<\/p>\n
