Jerry knew as a youngster he wanted to be a performer.\u00a0 His paternal grandparents reported he would run around, strumming his guitar saying, “I’m gonna be a star.\u00a0 I’m gonna go to Nashville and be a star”.<\/p>\n
He was just 18 when he was signed to a record contract, and he cut, “If the Good Lord’s Willing and the Creek Don’t Rise”.<\/p>\n
Other artists started recording his material.\u00a0 and this continued throughout his career.\u00a0 Gene Vincent with, “Crazy Legs”, Brenda Lee’s, “That’s All You Got to Do”, Elvis Presley with, “Guitar Man”, Johnny Cash’s, “A Thing Called Love”.<\/p>\n
In 1971, Jerry had his biggest hit with, “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot”, which earned Jerry the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male.\u00a0 Jerry is one of only five people to have the title, “Certified Guitar Player”.<\/p>\n
He appeared in more than a dozen movies, including all three of the “Smokey and the Bandit” films.<\/p>\n
