Jamie took piano lessons at the age of five.\u00a0 Guitar lessons followed a few years later, and his first songwriting effort in his early teens.<\/p>\n
After graduating from high school, he did some air shifts on local southern Ontario radio stations and he maintained his interest in singing and songwriting.\u00a0 He entered the Youth Talent Search at the Western Fair in London, Ontario and won.\u00a0 He was sent to Memphis, Tennessee to compete with other North American winners, and this led to a year of steady performing at Libertyland amusement park in Memphis.<\/p>\n
In his mid twenties, the awards started coming in.\u00a0 In 1985, he won the RPM Big Country Award for Best New Artist.\u00a0 Jamie was named independent Male Vocalist of the Year in 1999.\u00a0 He was nominated for a Juno later that year.\u00a0 In 2002 he won Single of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for “Sunny Day in the Park”.<\/p>\n
