The brothers were singing professionally before their teens.\u00a0 With their mom and dad on radio as, “The Everly Family”, then as, “Little Donnie and Baby Boy Phil”.<\/p>\n
When the family moved to to Tennessee, the brothers caught the attention of Chet Atkins, and this led to a record contract with Columbia Records.\u00a0 Their first recording for Columbia was written by Don.\u00a0 “Keep a Lovin Me” was a flop, and they were dropped from the label.<\/p>\n
The brothers were offered a song early in 1957 that had been rejected by thirty other performers.\u00a0 Don and Phil had just signed with Cadence Records, and they wanted a hit song on their new label.\u00a0 They looked at the music and lyrics, and Don added a guitar intro, and they made the recording with Chet Atkins on lead guitar.\u00a0 The song was, “Bye Bye Love”,\u00a0 and “The Everly Brothers” became household names.<\/p>\n
