Husband of Carol (Wright) Shelley.\u00a0 Father of Mr. &amp; Mrs. Steven Shelley of Alberta, Diane &amp; John Scherer of Guelph, and Sandra-Lynn Shelley of New Hamburg, and grandfather of Nicole.\u00a0 Brother-in-law of Allan &amp; Miriam Wright of Orillia, Arlene Scott of Whitby, and Irene &amp; Josh Atkinson of Alberta.\u00a0 Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Mr. &amp; Mrs. E.J. Shelley, parents-in-law Robert &amp; Evelyn Wright, brothers-in-law James Scott, and Ross Wright, and by his niece Karen Wright. Ron was a farmer all his life.\u00a0 He was a Shorthorn cattle\u00a0breeder for over 70 years, a Past President of Grey\u00a0Bruce Perth Huron Shorthorn Club, and a beef\u00a0cattle and swine judge.\u00a0 He also\u00a0worked\u00a010\u00a0years\u00a0for Quality Swine as a service technician.\u00a0 Ron was\u00a0a Huron 4-H leader for over 35 years, and a member of 4-H Elgin beef\u00a0club and Junior Farmers.\u00a0\u00a0He was an avid hunter and angler,\u00a0played saxophone at Port Stanley Stork Club, and was an auctioneer where he donated over 35 years to the Moorefield charity sale.\u00a0He was a Very Worshipful\u00a0Brother with the Fordwich Masonic Lodge and past Chief Chaplain of his district, and was a Lay Minister at St. Paul\u2019s Anglican Church in Palmerston.\u00a0 Ron coached minor Pee Wee hockey, and also helped as a referee at the local hockey arena, was a member of St. Thomas and Kurtzville curling club, a founding\u00a0member of Wallace Optimist Club, a member\u00a0and past president of Fordwich Seniors Young at Heart Club and Listowel Club, a member of Howick Turnberry Fall Fair Association, Huron- Perth Zone President of Senior Association, and won 2016 Ontario Senior Citizen of the Year award.\u00a0 Ron loved\u00a0to tell stories and was a real\u00a0jokester.\u00a0\u00a0Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Masonic Lodge Memorial Service at 6:45 p.m.\u00a0The funeral service will be held at St. Paul&#8217;s Anglican Church, Palmerston, on Thursday, October 27 at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations to Palmerston Hospital, St. Paul\u2019s Anglican Church, or Heart &amp; Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.\u00a0Online condolences may be left at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hardyleefuneralhome.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.hardyleefuneralhome.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hardyleefuneralhome.com\/obituary-listing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click HERE to read full obituary.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ronald Charles Burniston Shelley of R.R.2, Gorrie, passed away at Palmerston Hospital on Sunday, October 23, 2022 in his 89th year.
