Eternals<\/b><\/i>\u00a0is an upcoming American\u00a0superhero film<\/a>\u00a0based on the\u00a0Marvel Comics<\/a>\u00a0race\u00a0of the same name<\/a>. Produced by\u00a0Marvel Studios<\/a>\u00a0and distributed by\u00a0Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures<\/a>, it is intended to be\u00a0the 26th film<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a>\u00a0(MCU). The film was directed by\u00a0Chlo\u00e9 Zhao<\/a>, who wrote the screenplay with Patrick Burleigh, Ryan Firpo, and\u00a0Matthew K. Firpo<\/a>. It stars an\u00a0ensemble cast<\/a>\u00a0including\u00a0Gemma Chan<\/a>,\u00a0Richard Madden<\/a>,\u00a0Kumail Nanjiani<\/a>,\u00a0Lia McHugh<\/a>,\u00a0Brian Tyree Henry<\/a>,\u00a0Lauren Ridloff<\/a>,\u00a0Barry Keoghan<\/a>,\u00a0Don Lee<\/a>,\u00a0Gil Birmingham<\/a>,\u00a0Harish Patel<\/a>,\u00a0Kit Harington<\/a>,\u00a0Salma Hayek<\/a>, and\u00a0Angelina Jolie<\/a>. In the film, the Eternals, an immortal alien race, emerge from hiding after thousands of years to protect Earth from their evil counterparts, the\u00a0Deviants<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In April 2018, Marvel Studios president\u00a0Kevin Feige<\/a>\u00a0announced that a film based on the Eternals had begun development, with Ryan and\u00a0Matthew K. Firpo<\/a>\u00a0hired to write the script in May. Zhao was set to direct the film by late September, and was given freedom to use her own style when making the film such as filming on location more than previous Marvel Studios films. Zhao re-wrote the screenplay, which Burleigh was later revealed to have also contributed to. Starting in March 2019, a diverse cast was hired to portray the Eternals, which include the depiction of a gay superhero.\u00a0Principal photography<\/a>\u00a0took place from July 2019 to February 2020, at\u00a0Pinewood Studios<\/a>\u00a0as well as on location in London and\u00a0Oxford<\/a>, England, and in the\u00a0Canary Islands<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Eternals<\/i>\u00a0is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 5, 2021, as part of\u00a0Phase Four<\/a>\u00a0of the MCU.<\/p>\n
