November 11, 2019 5:55 amNovember 11th is the 315th day of the year. There are 50 days remaining until the end of the year.
Today is Remembrance Day, commemorating the end of WWI at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.
It’s the 101st anniversary of the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany in France.
It’s observed in Canada & the UK, and in Belgium & France as Armistice Day.
The tradition is to observe 2 minutes silence at 11am.

Municipal offices will be closed today in recognition of Remembrance Day.
All public libraries will be closed, but the pools and arenas will be open.
Municipal buses will be running as normal, as will garbage and recycling collections.
At the hospital, they’re on their standard holiday hours with most walk in services and departments closed. Emergency departments in Chatham and Wallaceburg are always open, 24/7.
Snowfall in the forecast today and Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory.
The advisory is for Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, London, Middlesex County, and Sarnia-Lambton.
Anywhere from 10 to 15 cm of snow is possible by Monday evening.
Motorists are reminded to take caution as travel may be impacted on Monday because of snow accumulation on roads.
The National Weather Service in the U.S. says 170 records could be broken between today and Wednesday for lowest temperatures on record. An Arctic blast is hitting the Plains and the Great Lakes.
Don Cherry has done it again.
During the weekly Coaches Corner segment on Saturday, he singled out immigrants in the Toronto area for not wearing a poppy, “You people … you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that,” Cherry said. “These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada, these guys paid the biggest price.”
His longtime partner, Ron MacLean, said nothing and gave the thumbs up sign. Ron apologized during the opening remarks of Hometown Hockey broadcast that aired last night.
Sportsnet has also issued an apology, “They do not represent our values and what we stand for as a network. We have spoken with Don about the severity of the issue and we sincerely apologize for these divisive remarks.”
The NHL called the comments “offensive and contrary to the values we believe in” in a brief statement issued Sunday.

The original Marlboro Man died earlier this month at the age of 90. And he never smoked.
Robert Norris was a rancher and also a well-known philanthropist who was good friends with John Wayne. He died in Colorado Springs, Colorado on November 3rd.
Norris quit being the Marlboro Man after 14 years, because he thought it was, “setting a poor example for his children.”
