Hockey Canada has voted to change the name of those divisions starting in the 2020-21 hockey season. The age divisions will become U7, U9, U11 through to U21, impacting all minor and female hockey programs under the Hockey Canada.
YEAR OF BIRTH | AGE ON DEC. 31 | AGE DIVISION |
2014 and before | 6 and under | Under-7 (U7) |
2012-2013 | 7-8 | Under-9 (U9) |
2010-2011 | 9-10 | Under-11 (U11) |
2008-2009 | 11-12 | Under-13 (U13) |
2006-2007 | 13-14 | Under-15 (U15) |
2003-2004-2005 | 15-16-17 | Under-18 (U18) |
2000-2001-2002 | 18-19-20 | Under-21 (U21) |
They believe this change will simplify the system for families who may be new to the game and be less offensive than some of the current names being used.
Beginning in the 2020-21 season, the names of age divisions at every level of minor hockey will be simplified – Novice to U9, Atom to U11, Peewee to U13, and so on.

Ford has unveiled its first all-electric SUV.
Industry analysts say this will start an avalanche of battery-powered vehicles coming from mainstream and luxury automakers during the next two years.
The five-passenger Mach E resembles a Mustang, and comes close to matching the car’s performance. Ford says the base model will have a range of about 230 miles (370 kilometres) per charge, with a long-range option of more than 300 miles (483 kilometres). The base version is expected to go from zero to 60 mph (96.6 kph) in a little over six seconds.
The base model will start just under $44,000, with the GT starting around $65,000.
