Monday morning was the last sunrise of 2019 for a small town in Alaska.

Utqiagvik, formerly known as Barrow, Alaska is the northernmost point of the United States.

The sun is set around 1:49pm on Monday and will rise around 1:09pm on January 23rd. That’s 66 days of darkness.

It won’t be total darkness, the sun, while below the horizon, will still cast enough light for a few hours.

A number of other locations in Alaska will move into polar night in the next couple of weeks.
