Tennis star Bianca Andreescu has won the 2019 Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s athlete of the year.

The 19-year-old is the first tennis player to win the award. The native of Mississauga became the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title when she defeated American star Serena Williams in the final of the U.S. Open.

She earned over US$6.5 million on the season and is ranked fifth in the world after starting the year ranked #152.

The Lou Marsh Trophy has been awarded annually since 1936 with a three-year hiatus during the Second World War.


The man, who inspired the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has passed away.

Former Boston College baseball star Pete Frates was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in 2012. His ice bucket challenge helped raise $220 million for ALS research. The challenge involves pouring a bucket of ice water over one’s head. Pete was 34.


Snoop Dogg is now doing colour commentary for the NHL 20 video game.

Snoop is available in the latest NHL 20 update.

Snoop also appears as a playable character in the game and has his own custom team in Hockey Ultimate Team Squad Battles, too.
