We got our first look at Chatham-Kent‘s 2020 Budget last night.

The Municipality is eyeing a tax increase of 4.99 per cent. So for a house assessed at $171,000 in C-K, a tax increase of 4.99% would equal an extra cost of $144 a year.

A large portion of the proposed increase, 1.49 per cent, is due to “downloads” from the provincial government. Provincial downloads occur when the Ontario government shifts sources of funding from the provincial income and sales tax onto municipal taxpayers.

So now the discussion begins. Budget deliberation meetings will be held on January 28, 29 and 30 from 6-10 at the Civic Centre. Additional meetings on February 4 and 5 will be held if needed. The proposed tax increase could change throughout the deliberations.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the Class of 2020 yesterday; The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, T. Rex, and The Notorious B.I.G.

Most will be there for the induction, except of course Whitney who died in 2012, Biggie died in 1997, and T. Rex frontman Marc Bolan died in 1977.

Prior to the announcement the FanVote had The Dave Matthews Band, Pat Benatar, the Doobie Brothers, Soundgarden, and Judas Priest in their top 5 to be inducted. None of them made it in.

Rock purists have taken issue with Whitney and Biggie being admitted over some other actual rock nominees.

The induction ceremony will take place in early May.

Pabst Blue Ribbon just announced it’s coming out with a new, “luxury” beer brand called Captain Pabst.

And the first beer in the line is an IPA, of course, called Seabird.

It’s hitting stores in Chicago and Wisconsin right now. There’s no word on when they’re going to take it nationwide, or create more Captain Pabst beers.
