On Saturday the Ontario government put in place a new emergency order in response to the COVID-19 pandemic by limiting social gatherings to a maximum of five people, with a few exceptions. The new measure took effect immediately.
The order does not apply to private households with five people or more, child care centres supporting frontline workers — provided that the number of people at each centre doesn’t exceed 50. Funerals with up to 10 people are allowed to take place.
This order replaces the previous emergency order that didn’t allow gatherings of 50 people or more.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that starting today at noon, anyone showing symptoms of COVID-19 will be denied boarding on all domestic flights and inter-city passenger trains. He also added that there are currently no plans to close provincial borders.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has closed BMX and skate parks to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Colby, added both yesterday. This comes after the closure of city-owned playground equipment, publicly-owned basketball and tennis courts, and picnic areas on Friday.
There are now 6 confirmed cases in Chatham-Kent.
Residents who believe they may have COVID-19 symptoms are asked to self-isolate and use Ontario’s Self-Assessment Tool to see if further care is needed.
The World Health Organization is now suggesting video games as a “healthy” pastime during the crisis.
Some game makers kicked off a new initiative entitled #PlayApartTogether to encourage people on how to entertain themselves and also practice physical distancing. The idea is supported by the WHO. Video games can be not only a good diversion, but also a way to connect socially with friends and family while at home.
WHO previously designated video game addiction as an official mental health disorder.
