Face masks are now mandatory in enclosed indoor spaces in Chatham-Kent.
The bylaw does have exemptions for people with medical conditions that prevent them from wearing a mask and for people who can’t put on or remove a mask without help. If customers lie about having a medical exemption, there’s not much a business owner can do. People don’t have to provide proof they’re exempt.
The age exemption is for a child younger than nine both chronologically and developmentally, and children between ages of four and nine are still encouraged to wear masks in indoor public areas.
Masks also do not have to be worn in public spaces when that person is receiving a service requiring the removal of the mask; consuming food or drink; or an emergency or medical service.
Employees at public spaces also do not have to wear masks in areas without public access or while behind a physical barrier, such as a plexiglass window.
The bylaw is NOT meant to replace directions from CK Public Health, it compliments maintaining a distance of two metres from other, frequent hand washing and staying home if you feel sick or have tested positive for COVID-19.
The full bylaw is available at www.chatham-kent.ca/local-government/by-laws.

Little White & Little Grey will stay in the sea sanctuary care pools for a short amount of time to acclimatize until they are ready to move out into the wider bay.
They look so happy!
