September 29, 2020 5:55 amSeptember 29th is the 273rd day of the year. There are 93 days remaining until the end of the year.
No new cases of COVID-19 were reported Monday by the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit for the third consecutive day.
Our record of 12 straight days without a new case ended Friday when two were reported. There are 3 active cases and no one is in hospital. Thankfully, no cases have been reported in our local elementary and secondary schools since classes resumed.
Ontario reported 700 cases across the province, a single day record since the start of the pandemic. 85% of the new positive cases are in Toronto, Ottawa, York and Peel. 60% of the new cases are in people under the age of 40.
With those 700 new cases, it’s official; Ontario is dealing with the second wave.
Premier Doug Ford said it is “more complicated, more complex — it’ll be worse than the first.”
Ford also announced that the province will invest $52.5 million to recruit, retain, and support 3,700 additional health care workers, to deal with any surge in demand as the surge in cases continues.
Now, more than ever, we need everyone to download the COVID Alert app so you can be notified if you may have been exposed to the virus.

Amazon is going to hold their Prime Days on October 13th and 14th.
It’s the first time Prime Day is being held in the fall, and Amazon is positioning it as a way to get people to start their holiday shopping.
Amazon started the sales event in 2015 as its answer to Singles’ Day, a shopping holiday in China popularized by Chinese ecommerce company Alibaba. Prime Day has become one of Amazon’s biggest shopping days, since it offers some of its deepest discounts of the year.
Originally Prime Day was scheduled for July, but due do the pandemic it was pushed back.
NASA will send a supply ship to the International Space Station today.
One of the items on board is a $23 million toilet. It is 65% smaller than the current one on the ISS and 40% lighter. The toilet has a dual fan and is reportedly easier for women to use.
