The first shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine have arrived in Canada.

Prime Minister Trudeau made the announcement Sunday night on Twitter.

30,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines are bound for 14 distribution sites across the country. Quebec is expected to be the first province to administer the vaccine. There will be two sites in each of the country’s four largest provinces, and one site in the other provinces and territories.

One of the long-term care centres to receive doses is in Quebec City, where public health officials said resident Gisele Levesque would be the first to be vaccinated. In a press release, she was calm and direct about being No. 1 on the list, saying simply, ‘I was chosen, of course.’”

In total, the Canadian government has ordered up to 76 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine, which requires two doses per person, to be taken two weeks apart.

Wayne Gretzky set another record Friday morning.

A mint condition 1979 O-Pee-Chee Gretzky rookie card became hockey’s first to cost more than US$1 million when it fetched $1.032 million at auction.

The trading card is just one of two featuring No. 99 from O-Pee-Chee’s 1979 run to get a perfect “gem mint” score from the Professional Sports Authenticator grading service.

Gretzky retired from the NHL in 1999 with a record 894 goals, 1,963 assists and 2,857 points and holds 60 NHL records.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is encouraging Floridians to catch and eat invasive pythons.

Burmese python owners have released the snakes into the Everglades because they can no longer care for them. The Burmese python population has exploded leading the state to hire python hunters.

The Wildlife Commission says they want hunters to eat what they catch. “We would like to use consumption as another way to encourage people to remove pythons in Florida if the meat is safe to eat.” Many hunters make python chili or sautee snake meat with onions and garlic. Some add their python meat to their pasta or make jerky out of it.
