Eight new COVID19 cases reported Thursday by the Chatham-Kent Public Health.

There are 37 active after 4 recoveries.

Ontario reported 2,432 cases. That’s a record number of cases for the second time this month. There were 737 new cases in Toronto, 434 in Peel, 209 in York Region, 190 in Windsor-Essex County and 142 in Hamilton.

Santa Claus has been given the official O.K. from Premier Doug Ford and Canada’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Theresa Tam.

The leaders had a video chat with the jolly old elf earlier in the week. Dr. Tam declared Santa an essential worker ahead of the holidays.

Claus says he’s had custom masks made that properly fit his beard and that the ‘good list‘ of children is a long one this year.

Russia was banned Thursday from using its name, flag and anthem at the next two Olympics or at any world championships for the next two years.

The name “Russia” can be used on uniforms if the words “Neutral Athlete” or “Neutral Team” have equal prominence.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s ruling also blocked Russia from bidding to host major sporting events for two years.

Russian athletes and teams will still be allowed to compete at next year’s Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, if they are not implicated in doping or covering up positive tests.

The penalties have been handed out after doping and cover-ups emerged after the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Netflix is developing an audio-only option, which will allow members to deselect video and just listen to audio like they would with an audiobook or podcast.

When watching a video, subscribers will see a “video off” button at the top of the full-screen video player. Once the video is turned off, a blank screen will appear along with all of the playback controls, like a scrub bar, forward and backward buttons, and speed adjustments.

Choosing the setting will cut down your data use and let you listen to programs while doing something else. It should be great for documentaries, standup and other audio-focused material, but won’t work so well for dramas that tell stories primarily through visuals.

Audio-only playback is now rolling out to the Netflix Android app, but it might take a while to reach all of us.
