February 1st is the 32nd day of 2021. There are 333 days remaining until the end of the year.

Ontario reported 1,848 new COVID19 cases on Sunday morning.

Toronto, York and Peel continue to be the provincial hotspots.

Health officials have confirmed that 20,016 Canadians have died since the beginning of the pandemic. To put that number in perspective; that’s the population of Wallaceburg, Tilbury and Blenheim…gone.

Chatham-Kent Public Health will release local numbers this afternoon.

There’s a blood donor clinic in Wallaceburg tomorrow at the UAW Hall (88 Elm Drive South) from 2:30-7:30.

Canadian Blood Services is an essential service. Blood is required every day, even through a pandemic.

Donations are by appointment only, book yours now at Blood.ca, use the apps or call 1-888-2-DONATE. No walk-in appointments are available.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced new travel restrictions on Friday.

Anyone flying into Canada from abroad will have to undergo a test for COVID-19 at the airport and then quarantine in a hotel for three days while they wait for the results.

Passengers returning to Canada will also have to foot the bill for the three-day quarantine, that could cost more than $2,000. If the traveller’s COVID-19 test comes back negative, they will be allowed to leave the hotel and go to their home for the remainder of the two week quarantine period, where they will isolate under what Trudeau said will be “significantly increased surveillance and enforcement.”

Those who test positive will be required to immediately quarantine in designated government facilities.

Starting this week, all international passenger flights must land at the following four airports: Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Starting on Sunday, non-essential trips to sun destinations – Mexico and the Caribbean – have been cancelled until April 30th.

The Detroit Lions have traded their quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Stafford is heading to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for quarterback Jared Goff and a bunch of draft picks.

Following another losing season he asked management for a trade. Stafford will leave Detroit as the team’s all-time leader in every passing category.

Reports say the one team Stafford had on his “do not trade” list was the New England Patriots.

The Lions will face the Rams next season in Los Angeles.

It’s February 1st. Here are a couple of things to look forward to this month:
Super Bowl 55 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers is this Sunday and the Daytona 500 is February 14th.

Valentine’s Day on the 14th. But we’ve also got Groundhog Day tomorrow, Chinese New Year on the 12th, Family Day on the 15th, Mardi Gras/Pancake Tuesday/Paczki Day on the 16th, Ash Wednesday on the 17th and the entire month of February is Black History Month.

And a few fun but lesser-known holidays include: Ice Cream for Breakfast Day this Saturday, National Pizza Day on the 9th, National Guitar Day on the 11th, National Drink Wine Day on the 18th and National Margarita Day on the 22nd.
