Chatham-Kent Public Health reported seven new cases and 14 resolved cases as of Friday morning, leaving a total of 97 active cases. The number of local people in the hospital with the virus now stands at one. Updates will be released later this morning. Chatham-Kent remains in the Red-Control level of Ontario’s COVID-19 Reopening Framework.
Ontario reported 2,448 new cases of COVID-19 and 19 more deaths on Sunday.
The number of people vaccinated in Chatham-Kent is approaching 20,000 as of Friday. Dr. Colby said his vaccination team has gone through all of the vaccine supply again this week and the mass vaccination clinic at the John Bradley Centre in Chatham will reopen again next week when more vaccines arrive.
Ever Given container ship ‘successfully re-floated’ after six days blocking the Suez Canal. The 400-metre (1312-foot) long Ever Given ship, which has been blocking the Suez Canal for six days, was successfully re-floated at 4.30 am on Monday, local time. The ship has since started moving away from the western bank. It’s not yet clear when the canal will be ready for passage again.

The 121-day Olympic Torch relay is set to begin at the J-Village football training centre near the damaged Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, where the Fukushima nuclear disaster took place 10 years ago. Members of Japan’s women’s football team from 2011, who won the World Cup that year, will get the relay underway on Thursday. The flame will be carried in turns by about 10,000 torchbearers across Japan’s 47 prefectures and will end in the lighting of the Olympic cauldron at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Games on July 23.
