The province reported 1,033 new COVID19 cases on Sunday. That’s about 30 less than Saturday.

Locally, numbers are not released on the weekend. On Friday there were 2 more positive cases, 4 resolved. Total active in Chatham-Kent is at 14. An update from the weekend will happen between 10-11 this morning.


Seven hundred vaccination appointments opened up for tomorrow at the Chatham-Kent Vaccination clinic.

The Greatest Spectacle in Racing, the Indy 500 was Sunday.

33 drivers, 200 laps, 500 miles and 135,000 fans at Indianapolis Motor Speedway watched Helio Castroneves take the checkered flag. He’s just the fourth driver to win the race 4 times. The last 4-time winner was 30 years ago. Helio made his move to the front with two laps to go.

After stopping his car, he climbed down the fence, then ran nearly a mile down the front stretch for a victory lap on foot. He pumped his arms in the air and waved to the ecstatic crowd before other drivers joined him for congratulations.

There were two Canadians in the race; James Hinchcliffe finished 21st, while Dalton Kellett was 23rd. Hinchcliffe had Chatham-Kent’s Jeff Gotelaer as one of his spotters.

Helio won season 5 of Dancing with the Stars with Julianne Hough.


It’s Memorial Day today in the U.S.

It’s a day for honouring the men and women who have died while on duty with the U.S. military and it is a day where Americans across the country pay their respects, often by visiting military cemeteries or memorials.

The holiday is observed on the last Monday of May.
