Environment Canada has extended a heat warning for Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex and Sarnia-Lambton with maximum daytime temperatures from 31 to 35 degrees Celsius are expected with humidex values near 40. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to fall to only 21 to 24 degrees, providing little relief from the heat.

A cold front is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms Tuesday evening bringing an end to the heat and humidity.

Young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with chronic illnesses are at the greatest risk from the heat. Environment Canada is advising residents in the affected region to drink plenty of water and stay in a cool place.

However, provincial officials say they want to wait a full 21 days before rolling restrictions back further. Most of Ontario moved into Step 2 on Wednesday.

After nearly 16 months of rigid travel restrictions, Canada is finally starting to loosen the rules — but only for a specific few.

Effective today, fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents — those who have had a full course of a COVID-19 vaccine approved for use in Canada — will be able to skip the 14-day quarantine. Eligible air travellers will also be exempt from the requirement that they spend their first three days in Canada in a government-approved hotel.

Travellers must use the ArriveCAN app or web portal prior to departure to log their vaccination details, as well as the results of a negative COVID-19 test that’s less than three days old. The ArriveCAN portal can be accessed either via the Apple or Android app or online via the federal government’s website at canada.ca.
