On Sunday Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the Governor General agreed to dissolve parliament and call a federal election.

Canadians will be heading to the polls on September 20th.

Elections Canada estimates the price tag for the election could be in the range of $610 million. That’s $100 million more than the 2019 election.

A lot of the cost is due to pandemic safety measures and the expected flood of mail-in ballots.

On Sunday Ontario reported 511 new cases of COVID-19. 350 cases are in unvaccinated individuals and 67 in partially vaccinated individuals.

Chatham-Kent Public Health doesn’t update on the weekends. On Friday, there were 8 new cases and one recovery. The active case count locally is at 18. A weekend update will come between 10-11 this morning.

Carnival Cruise Line’s newest and largest-ever vessel launched out of Florida’s Port Canaveral on July 31st.

It’s the first-ever cruise ship to set sail with an onboard roller coaster, Bolt. The 800-foot-long roller coaster has twists, dips and a hairpin turn around the ship’s tunnel. It’s positioned about 20 feet above the ship’s 18th deck — above a miniature golf course and jogging track — and 187 feet above sea level. The speed is controlled by riders, who can make it go up to 40 miles per hour.

The ride lasts about 20 seconds and costs $15.
