The Summer Olympics in Tokyo have ended, with a final weekend full of memories for Canadians.
The games were pulled off in the midst of a world wide pandemic making it even more remarkable. The Canadian Olympic Committee said none of its delegation had tested positive for the virus as of the Closing Ceremony.
Some of the highlights included swimmer Penny Oleksiak winning three medals to become Canada’s most decorated Olympian with seven career medals, while Andre De Grasse won three to give him six overall, the most all-time among Canadian men. On Friday the Canadian Women’s Soccer team won gold for the first time. Decathlon gold medalist Damian Warner from London was the flag bearer for the closing ceremonies.
That gave Canada seven gold, six silver and 11 bronze medals. The 24 total medals set a new standard for Canada in a non-boycotted Olympics, while the seven gold tied the nation’s output at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Canada finished 11th both in the official medal standings and the overall medal count.
The Winter Olympics will be in Beijing in February 2022. The next Summer games will be in Paris, France in July 2024.
Facebook has rolled out a new prayer request feature.
Religious leaders are embracing it as a cutting-edge way to engage the faithful online.
In Facebook Groups employing the feature, members can use it to rally prayer power for upcoming job interviews, illnesses and other personal challenges big and small. After they create a post, other users can tap an “I prayed” button, respond with a “like” or other reaction, leave a comment or send a direct message.
