On Saturday, the Ontario government announced $2 million in aid to assist Wheatley.
Two buildings were destroyed, several damaged and 20 injured when a gas leak exploded on August 26th.
The money will aid eligible Wheatley businesses to resume operations. The funding will also be used to provide goods and services to local families.
Premier Doug Ford will join CKMORNINGS this morning after 9am.
On Sunday Ontario reported 653 new cases of COVID-19 – the fourth consecutive day of more than 600 new infections. 499 cases are in unvaccinated individuals (76%)
Chatham-Kent Public Health doesn’t update on the weekends or holidays. On Friday, there were 13 new cases and twelve recoveries. The active case count locally is at 112. A weekend update will come between 10-11 this morning.
Beginning Saturday, Ontario eased capacity limits in specific indoor venues that require proof of vaccination.
Those include meeting and event spaces, such as banquet halls and conference/convention centres; sporting events, concerts, theatres and cinemas, among a few others. Capacity will increase to up to 50 per cent or 10,000 people (whichever is less) for these events.
That includes the Blue Jays fans at Rogers Centre doubled to 30,000 starting with tomorrow night’s series opener against the New York Yankees to the final regular-season game on Sunday.
The Maple Leafs and Raptors will also have fans in attendance at Scotiabank Arena this season.
The increased numbers also effect local teams and venues.
Chatham’s Bridget Carleton‘s WNBA season is over.
In a second round, 1 game playoff Bridget’s Minnesota Lynx lost to the Chicago Sky 89-76.
