Ontario reported 865 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest count of cases seen since early June, with the greatest number of infections among unvaccinated people since the province started keeping track earlier this summer.

Chatham-Kent Public Health reported 25 new cases – the highest single-day total since March 18 – and seven resolved cases. Chatham-Kent was up to 76 active cases Thursday, its highest total since April 2.


Wheatley residents will soon have the chance to ask questions about last week’s explosion during a virtual meeting slated for this Saturday at 10 a.m. on the municipality’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Questions submitted by residents onscreen will be directed to members of a panel that include municipal staff and other officials.

Although there are currently no gas readings at the blast site, officials say it’s still unknown at this point when displaced residents and business owners can safely return.

A reminder for those who have put off renewing their license plate stickers, expired driver’s licenses, and identification cards a deadline has been set.

Drivers and vehicle owners are encouraged to book an appointment at Service Ontario or online to begin the renewal process before the February 28, 2022 deadline with products that have expired on or after March 1, 2020.


With a long weekend coming up here are some Labour Day facts.

  • A recent poll found our favorite things to do on Labor Day are grill, watch movies, or just relax and do nothing.  Outdoor activities, parties, and shopping also rank high.
  • The most popular things to grill are burgers, hot dogs, chicken, steak, and ribs.
  • According to the etiquette experts at EmilyPost.com, it’s perfectly fine to wear white after Labor Day.  They say it’s an old rule that’s outdated now.
