The Toronto Blue Jays have officially signed pitcher Kevin Gausman.
The signing was announced Wednesday after an agreement was reported on the weekend. Gausman is 30 years old and signed for five-years, $110-million US. It’s the second largest contract to a pitcher the Jays have ever given out. José Berríos, who just signed a seven-year, $131 million extension in November.

The Detroit Tigers have made a big free agent splash of their own, signing shortstop Javier Baez to a six-year, $140-million deal.

Speaking of baseball, Major League Baseball owners have locked out the players after being unable to come to a new labour contract by the 11:59pm deadline Wednesday night. There had been labour peace between the owners and players for the last 26 1/2 years. There was a 232 day strike in the middle of the 1994 season.

Hockey Canada has released its list of invitees for next week’s World Juniors selection camp.
On that roster is Tilbury’s Brett Brochu. He is one of three goaltenders trying out for the team. Brochu plays in the Ontario Hockey League for the London Knights.
Canada lost 2-0 to the United States in the gold-medal final in last years tournament. The World Juniors will run from December 26-January 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer.
Gas prices are expected to drop 2 cents on average across the province today.
The average in Ontario should be about 132.9 cents per litre today. As of this morning, the average in C-K is at 134.5/litre.
Fill up when you get a chance, the price drop is going to be short-lived, prices will go back up by at least two cents Friday.
