Chatham-Kent Public Health reported new 53 new cases Tuesday.

The hospitalized cases is up by 9 to 28. The ICU at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is once again at 100% capacity. Thankfully no new deaths reported locally.

Ontario reported 7,951 new cases. Provincial health officials are reporting 3,220 people are now in the hospital for the virus, that compares to 2,472 reported Monday.

Remember, due to testing eligibility changes the province warns the counts are an underestimate of the true spread of the virus in the community.

It’s the opening night of the 2022 Chatham-Kent budget.

Tonight is an information meeting to review issues facing Council and administration’s recommendations for the 2022 budget.

The meeting will be streamed on the C-K YouTube page.

Next week will be Budget Presentations and Consultations before the Budget Committee begins on January 26th.

The test of higher speed limits on three Ontario highways has been extended for another two years by the Ontario government.

The 402 connecting London and Sarnia, was one of three highways that saw its speed limit bumped to 110 kilometres an hour from 100 in the fall of 2019 as part of the two-year test. Queen Elizabeth Way from Hamilton to St. Catharines and Highway 417 near Ottawa were the other two test sites.

Due to the pandemic lockdowns and restrictions, traffic volumes and other data needed to determine the success of the initiative haven’t been consistent.

“Before any decisions are made about raising speed limits permanently, we will continue to monitor the effectiveness of the raised speed limits,” a Transportation ministry spokesperson said.

Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan already have highway speed limits of 110 km/h.

Lay’s has secretly been growing potatoes in dirt taken from NFL stadiums. And they made a limited-edition line of chips with them. But you have to win a bag. And be American.

They’re called Lay’s Golden Grounds chips, and the tagline is, “Grown in Glory.” They did it for 29 of the 32 teams (Browns, Bengals, and Broncos fans are out of luck.) For teams that play on turf, they used dirt from somewhere else in the stadium. Then they mixed it with more dirt and grew potatoes in it.

To win a bag, go to Lays.com/GoldenGrounds and click on your favorite team’s bag. That automatically tags them in a Tweet. Then you have to post a photo or video showing that you’re a die-hard fan. They’re doing five different giveaways between now and January 21st, and only giving out 200 bags per team.
