Sources say the Ontario government has reached a deal with the federal government for a $10-a-day child-care program.
The deal commits the federal government to providing $10.2 billion to Ontario over a five-year period to bring the average cost of a child-care spot down to $10 per day in 2026. For parents, the funding means an imminent reduction of child-care fees by an average of 25%, with a further 25% drop a year from now.
Child care costs in Ontario are among the highest in Canada, with a full-time spot for a toddler in Toronto averaging around $1,600 a month, or about $70 a day.
