For just the third time during her reign, Queen Elizabeth II will not attend the opening of Parliament today because of ongoing mobility issues.

After consulting with her doctors the 96-year-old reluctantly decided not to attend. She previously missed the opening in 1959, when she was pregnant with Prince Andrew, and 1963, when she was pregnant with Prince Edward.

The state opening of Parliament is a centuries-old ceremony that marks the start of the legislative year. Prince Charles will read her speech, which sets out the government’s agenda for the coming parliamentary session. Prince William will also attend.

The 2023 Tim Hortons Brier is coming to London’s Budweiser Gardens March 3-12.

Organizers are now looking for volunteers to help during the event in various roles.

Volunteers will be given a $100 reward fee for their help as well as access to the venue and Original 16 Patch with live entertainment.

The Brier was last in London in 2011, when Budweiser Gardens was named the John Labatt Centre.
