If you’re thinking of running in the upcoming municipal election, the nomination period opens today.
Candidates for mayor, council or school board trustee, are required to collect 25 signatures endorsing their candidacy. Nominations need to be filed using the prescribed nomination paper and filed either in person the returning officer or clerk.
There is a $200 fee to run for mayor and a $100 fee for all other positions including school board trustee and councillor.
Anyone over the age of 18, who is a Canadian citizen and either lives in or owns property in the municipality where they are running is eligible.
Nominations close on August 19th, and the municipal vote is on October 24th.
The Chatham Maroons will face off against the Leamington Flyers in the GOJHL Western Conference Final.
Leamington beat out the St. Marys Lincolns on Friday to advance.
The league will announce the schedule today, the Flyers will have the home ice advantage.
The NHL playoffs begin tonight.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will take on the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round. Puck drop for game one is 7:30.

The Rise House Rock-a-Thon on Saturday at Sons of Kent raised over $12,000.
The funds raised will support Rise House International an orphanage in Haiti run by Chatham’s Emily Hime.
