After another scrubbed launch attempt on Friday, NASA will not pursue a launch of Artemis I for the remainder of the launch period, which ends today.

The scrub was called at 11:17am, three hours before the beginning of the launch window.

The first attempt was called off on Monday due to a range of problems. The launch team made significant adjustments to try on Saturday, but those plans were scrubbed after team members discovered a liquid hydrogen leak that they spent the better part of the morning trying to resolve.

The Artemis I mission is just the beginning of a program that will aim to return humans to the moon and eventually land crewed missions on Mars.

Artemis I’s next launch attempt may not happen until later this year.

A new record for the hottest September day anywhere on the planet was set last week.

A thermometer at Death Valley, U.S. National Park in southern California, reached 127 degrees Fahrenheit (52 degrees C) on September 1st in the Furnace Creek area.

The scorching record comes close to the world’s highest recorded temperature, which also occurred in Death Valley in 1912, the mercury topped out at 134 degrees.

The heat wave continues in southern California today, temperatures are expected to reach 112F (44C) in Fresno and 110F (43C) in Sacramento.
