If you get a GST rebate, you’ll be getting an extra on your cheque this year.

The amount will be doubled after the Liberal government’s Bill C-30 became law on Tuesday.

Canadians without children can expect to receive up to an extra $234 and couples with two children will receive up to an extra $467 a year. How much extra money you can expect to receive depends on several factors, including your family net income, your marital status, and how many children you have.

Doubling the GST credit will cost $2.5 billion to support to 11 million individuals.

Extra GST credit payments will automatically be sent to eligible Canadians, beginning in early November.

Another day of miserable weather, but on the sunny-side; no mosquitoes to deal with.

A new study finds that some people are “mosquito magnets” and it has to do with the way they smell.

The researchers found that people who are most attractive to mosquitoes produce a lot of certain chemicals on their skin that are tied to smell. The bad news for you mosquito magnets: The bloodsuckers stay loyal to their favourites over time.

The test was done using the same people over multiple years, proving that: mosquito magnets seem to remain mosquito magnets.

Mosquito magnets had high levels of certain acids on their skin. These “greasy molecules” are part of the skin’s natural moisturizing layer, and people produce them in different amounts. The healthy bacteria that live on the skin eat up these acids and produce part of our skin’s odour profile. You can’t get rid of these acids without damaging your skin health.

They hope that the research will help find new methods to repel mosquitoes.
