February is Black History Month.
Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities.
It wasn’t until December of 1995 that the House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month in Canada, following a motion introduced by the Jean Augustine, the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament.
Once considered a destination for freedom seekers, Chatham-Kent is home to some of the most successful Black settlements in Canadian History.
The Buxton National Historic Site & Museum, Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society and Black Mecca Museum and the Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History are all hosting events this month beginning with a flag-raising at the Civic Centre on King Street, starting at noon.

It’s tax season.
This year the deadline for filing your 2022 tax return in Canada is May 1, according to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), that’s because the usual date, April 30, falls on the weekend this year.
If you want your taxes to be in on time, make sure you have them sent in before May 1, or, at the very least, post-marked for that day.
Do you usually file your tax return by paper?
Consider filing online! It’s fast, easy, and you’ll avoid paper processing delays!

Campers! Today’s the day.
Reservations at Ontario Parks are available online or by phone up to five months in advance of your arrival date. This means that to camp on Canada Day, reservations are available as of this morning at 7am.
If you want to camp at popular parks like Algonquin, Bon Echo, Killbear, Pinery, and Sandbanks, you should reserve as early as possible.
At select parks, we’ll be reducing the maximum length of stay from 23 nights to 7 or 14 nights for campground sites during our busiest camping season.
This applies to trips between July 1 and the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend.

For Parks Canada visitors will be able to start booking reservations for camping and other activities online beginning in March. The bookings are a couple months later than recent years because the reservation system was getting outdated and needed some upgrades.
